Excitement has been building with the forthcoming opening of 4 world class trail centres and they will put Northern Ireland firmly on the map of top mountain biking destinations. Rostrevor will be offering 26km of red/black graded cross country trails and 2 downhill tracks and is described by local bikers as the ‘epicentre’ for all off-road cycling disciplines in Northern Ireland.

For the opening event, the Rostrevor Mountainbike Festival in Association with Newry & Mourne District Council will take place between 4th – 6th May.

600+ Mountain bikers from every corner of the country will be in attendance to celebrate this very unique experience. Not only will this be the largest gathering of mountain bikers ever in the country but it will be the first time 3 disciplines have been contested at the same venue over the one weekend.

Co-ordinator for the event and local mountain biker Glyn O’Brien has commented “These are exciting times for local bikers and it will be a huge boost for our economy. We are encouraging everyone to get involved, please come along to the festival and celebrate with us. It’s a great opportunity to learn about our sport and it’s never too late to get started!”

Mayor John McArdle commented “This is a excellent opportunity to showcase the new mountain bike trails at Rostrevor and get things in place for the forthcoming World Police & Fire Games in August”.

Chain Reaction Cycling Club will host the DH event taking place on the brand new The Pulse DH track.
If Carlsberg done Downhill track this would be it! A swift uplift and roll in brings you to the top of Northern Irelands first purpose built downhill track. It has been designed with racers it mind and will deliver that same technical experience of tracks that Rostrevor is famous for. As you drop into the trees your work is cut out immediatley with mind blowing rock gardens and flat out berms. Every section of trail has been sculpted to test body, bike and skill to the limit. Lots of natural rock features have been left in that are not only visually pleasing but open up sections of trail that will tempt the most skilled riders into gnarly fast lines that will chew you up and spit you out if things get outa hand. Towards the bottom some nice flowing berms and jumps will give you a chance to get loose and please the crowds. For the IDMS a bonus section of natural trail will link it into the race village. If this track does not get your PULSE racing your in the wrong sport!!

Entry to the race field will be via Kilbroney Forest Park signposted from Rostevor.
